The U.S. State Department has just issued a press release stating that no new adoption cases from Nepal will be processed. Meaning, we will not be bringing home a child from Nepal. Families who have already received referrals will be able to process their adoptions, but no new cases will be allowed through. There was a line in there about hoping to open it up again, but I am not aware of any programs that closed opening up again (Vietnam, Guatemala, etc.).
This is not completely unexpected but I still feel like I've been punched in the gut. Especially since we got our hopes up this week. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to throw up.
Please pray for us. This was not a surprise to God, and we praise Him for His goodness even through our heartache.

Elissa (and Kyle)~
ReplyDeleteI am heartbroken for you my dear sister and friend. Sick.
You know I am pretty much always full of questions and have very few answers but I know you will remain faithful to God and am confident He will provide the answers.
I love you and am here for you.
Lisa
I am so so sorry...there really isn't much else to say is there? My heart goes out to you.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry! My heart is broken for you and I am praying for you!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if you read the whole notice, or the Q&A, but DOS has not suspended adoptions. They have suspended adoptions where the Nepal orphan status indicated "abandonded." Here is a Q&A from the DOS site:
Q: Does the suspension apply to all cases or only to cases in which a child was allegedly found abandoned?
A. The suspension applies only to cases where a child is alleged to have been found abandoned.
If you get matched with a child for any other reason than abandonment, you should still be able to adopt from Nepal.
Heather
Heather-- I wish there was hope but the very next FAQ says that all the current orphans are abandonments. It's the end of the road for us.
ReplyDeletei am a 2010 Family. Where do we go from here?
ReplyDeleteWow do we love you guys, more than you know. Praying for your family, heartsick right along with you.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Potocniks
I am so sorry. You are right to say that God is not surprised. He already knows where your child is! We are continuing to pray for you both!
ReplyDeleteOh, my friend. I am coming late to this news, as we had been away all weekend. But I am so, so sorry for your loss. I am praying for you guys now.
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago, you encouraged me in a hard, hard time with these words: "but I promise you Aidan will be so perfect for The Gang that you will be AMAZED. She will be so worth the wait and the heartache, and will be a walking talking testament of Grace." And every single one of them was true. True, beyond our wildest and craziest and fondest dreams.
So now I say the same to you: The child you long for and will some day hold in your arms will be the perfect gift to you all. In His time. In His plan. In His way. And the whims and policies of man and man's limited ways will not with-hold the blessing that God intends to rain down on your home. You WILL be the mother of children. You will be blessed by a quiver full. YOU WILL BE. Hold fast to what you KNOW about God. And we who love you (even if not IRL!) will pray for you and hold up your arms.
As you did for me on that sad and lonely day so many months ago.
Hugs to you today.
Oh Elissa...I just now read your post. I am just sick about this for you.
